Robbers break into SBI branch

Dhubri, Feb. 23: A gang of six robbers broke into the Kachakhana branch of State Bank of India (SBI) and two houses in Kachakhana village under Tamarhat police station of Dhubri district around 1.30am today.

A police source in Tamarhat police station said the robbers first broke into the SBI branch and tried to break open the locker but failed. They, however, took away the gun, ammunition and uniform of the bank’s security guard. They then stormed the residences of villagers Hitendra Nath Pradhani and Biren Roy in Kachakhana village and decamped with valuables and cash worth around Rs 600,000, source said.

When contacted, the officer-in-charge of Tamarhat police station, Tarun Das, said the gun and ammunition were recovered from a paddy field at Kachakhana this morning.
