Attack complaint

Jalpaiguri, Feb. 23: A Jalpaiguri CPM worker has lodged a police complaint accusing a neighbour of barging into his house with other Trinamul supporters and assaulting him for participating in Wednesday’s strike.

Utpal Mohanta, a trader in Netajipara, said in the complaint that last night’s attack followed a threat by Trinamul workers to those who had brought out a rally on Wednesday in support of the strike.

“Some Trinamul workers threatened us with dire consequences for bringing out the rally. Yesterday around 11.30pm, they barged into my house and beat me and my brother,” Utpal said today.

Utpal suffered minor injuries on his hands and legs while his brother was hurt in the shoulder.

The neighbour, Biswajit Roy, has been arrested. Police, however, said the alleged assault was the fallout of a “dispute between the two families”.

Biswajit’s father has lodged a counter complaint accusing Utpal and his brother of barging into their house and attacking his son.

Trinamul denied its workers were involved.
