Calcutta: Bengal’s win over Assam might have rendered the Jharkhand vs Odisha match inconsequential, but that did not deter the Odisha players from putting up a clinical performance as they thrashed their opponents by 235 runs, in a Vijay Hazare zonal leg match, on Friday.
After the Odisha batsmen put up an imposing 353 — courtesy Paresh Patel’s 126 and debutant Arabind Singh’s 132 — it was left for the their bowlers to restrict the opposition. They went on with their job calmly and dismissed their opponent for 118, at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake campus ground.
Suryakant Pradhan was the wrecker-in-chief as he took seven wickets to help Odisha finish their campaign on a winning note.
Odisha coach Debasis Mohanty said it was unfortunate that they could not qualify, but there were a lot of positives for the side.
“It was unfortunate that we could not qualify. But we gave our best today. We wanted to bat for the entire 50 overs and we did that. I am also pleased with the bowlers’ efforts. The performance of the youngsters Arabind and Surya are a big positive for us.”
