Odafe does the trick

Calcutta: Okolie Odafe scored a hat-trick to help McDowell Mohun Bagan defeat Kalighat MS 3-1 in a Calcutta Football League Super Nine match at the Kalyani Stadium, on Friday.

In another match, Ranty Martins struck a brace in Prayag United SC’s comprehensive 3-0 win over Eastern Railway at the Salt Lake Stadium. Mohammed Rafique scored the other goal.

Bagan moved to the third spot in the CFL table with 10 points from four matches while United SC are placed fifth with eight points.

Bagan dominated the proceedings from the outset and created numerous chances. They took the lead in the 45th minute as Odafe brilliantly headed home a Manish Bhargav cross.

Struck by the reverse, Kalighat MS played with intent and showed the desire to equalise. Their efforts bore fruit in the 59th minute when Tanmoy Kundu scored the fourth goal of his campaign.

Odafe, however, was firm in his resolve to register a victory.

After receiving a pass from Quinton Jacobs, the Nigerian goal machine struck home his second in the 71st minute and completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute.
