Feb. 22: The body of an unidentified woman in her early 20s was recovered from a box in the Avadh Assam Express that arrived at Guwahati railway station early this morning.
The partially decomposed body was found wrapped in a blanket inside the unclaimed box, which was kept near the toilet of coach no. S 7 in the train.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem.
The train had left from Lalgarh in Rajasthan three days ago and reached here around 4 this morning.
Government Railway Police have registered a case, suspecting murder.
They have also not ruled out the possibility of rape.
An alert has been sounded along the route to examine the CCTV footage for further investigation into the case.
