Offcial held for swindle

Shillong, Feb. 22: A Meghalaya government official was arrested yesterday by the CID for allegedly forging official documents to attain funds from the Centre. The official has also been accused of misusing public money.

Acting on an FIR filed by Meghalaya Non-Conventional and Rural Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) director Jopthiaw Lyngdoh on February 18, CID sleuths arrested J.E. Rodborne, project director.

The court granted the CID seven days to interrogate Rodborne.

Sources said the accused had forged official documents relating to a project for setting up 70 SLV stations in villages. The amount to set up the project is estimated at Rs 88.87 lakh, a source said.

Moreover, sources said the accused had submitted an utilisation certificate for the installation of 170 solar power plants in villages at a cost of Rs 1 crore. However, they said the amount was never utilised for the said purpose.

Rodborne was placed under suspension hours before his arrest.
