Mother killed in front of 6-yr-old

Four men shot a young homemaker dead in front of her six-year-old son in Adityapur, 2km from Jamshedpur, on Friday.

Munni Devi (28) fetched her son from school around 1pm and had barely parked her scooter in front of their residence at Muslim Bustee when she was attacked. She took three bullets — on the head, right shoulder and left arm — and collapsed.

Neighbours rushed her to MGM Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi, where she was declared brought dead.

Inspector K.N. Mishra of Adityapur police station said they suspected that Munni Devi was killed over a land dispute her coal dealer husband Ratan Lohar (40) had with some local residents.

“The assailants, who were riding two motorcycles, managed to escape after shooting the lady from close range,” he said, adding that they had a lead in the case and were conducting raids.

According to sources in the police, preliminary investigations had thrown up three names — Mohammed Shahbuddin, Mohammed Nausad and Mazla, who are all residents of Muslim Bustee. The identity of the fourth assailant is yet to be ascertained.

Neighbours said Munni Devi had married Lohar eight years ago. The couple had been facing trouble over a plot of land since then. No one in the densely populated locality could shed more light on what the dispute was.

Police have sent the body to MGM Medical College in Dimna for post-mortem.
