New car park for Bistupur
- Two acres along N-Road to hold 500 vehicles

Machines — mean and modest — heave a sigh of relief.

No more bumper grazing on congested roads and overcrowded parking lots, Jusco is making room for more wheels to rest in Bistupur.

The Tata Steel subsidiary has identified two acres near Tilak Pustakalaya along N-Road for a new parking zone that promises to ease rush on Bistupur Main Road and end hassles for shoppers.

Currently, there are two Jusco parking zones in Bistupur — one on L-Road behind Bank of Baroda and another near TR-type quarters. The former is not used as widely as initially expected because car owners have to walk a considerable distance from the parking zone to the local marketplace. Like L-Road, the demarcated zone behind Tilak Pustakalaya also has few takers.

“One more parking lot will check chaos and congestion on Bistupur Main Road It will hold 200 cars and 300 two-wheelers,” said a Jusco official. “As of now, the existing boundary wall at the proposed site is being reinforced and entrance gates widened. Groundwork for the parking zone will begin soon,” he added.

So far, in the absence of any parking space in close proximity to the Bistupur market, shoppers had a tough time hauling their buys to their vehicles. Some less sensible ones parked cars randomly in front of shops, clogging the narrow lane leading to the marketplace. Others relied on Bistupur Main Road.

“Once the new parking lot comes up close to the market, these will be problems of the past,” a senior official of Jusco sounded bullish.
