Man ‘kills’ wife
A 40-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife and surrendered before police on Thursday. Bishnu Karar, who suspected his wife Krishna, 35, was having an affair with a neighbour, strangled her with a rope at their house in Liluah, Howrah. He surrendered at Liluah police station.
Life for seven
Seven persons were sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday by the district and sessions court of Alipore for murdering three persons in Sonarpur in 2001. Police said one accused is absconding.
Snatched
Two youths on a bike allegedly snatched a gold chain from a 34-year-old homemaker at Sinthee on Thursday. Local people chased the bikers, dragged one of them down and recovered the chain. Surajit Biswas, 21, was handed over to police.
Arrest
Surajit Kar, 23, was arrested on Wednesday from Serampore station for allegedly trying to snatch a cell phone from a 23-year-old girl in a Tarakeshwar-bound local train. Keya Ray had raised the alarm, catching the attention of passengers and police. |
