Mumbai, Feb. 21: Ernst & Young today named Godrej group chairman Adi Godrej as the Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 and conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award on Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of the Tata group.
The entrepreneur of the year award is one of the world’s most prestigious awards and Godrej will now represent India at the Ernst & Young world entrepreneur of the year award ceremony in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June, Ernst & Young said.
Seven other entrepreneurs have also bagged awards across various categories.
A nine-member jury, headed by Maruti Suzuki India chairman R.C. Bhargava, selected the winners.
Adi Godrej is known for creating an international conglomerate with operations in diverse sectors such as FMCG, consumer durables, real estate and industrial engineering.
Ratan Tata, who recently stepped down as the chairman of Tata Sons, is well known for making the Tata brand a global name besides creating jobs and wealth in India. Tata had got the entrepreneur of the year award in 2003.
“Entrepreneurs have played a seminal role in the success of fast-growing economies such as India. Our finalists represent many unique business models and breakthrough ideas, which are touching the lives of millions not just across India but around the world,” Farokh Balsara, partner & EOY program leader, Ernst & Young India said.
