Calcutta: Assam and Jharkhand face off in an extremely crucial encounter of the Vijay Hazare Trophy East Zone leg, on Thursday, at Eden Gardens.
For Assam, one more win would guarantee them a place in the pre-quarter final stage. For Jharkhand, a loss would virtually end their hopes of making it to the next round.
It all boils down to how the Jharkhand batsmen fare against the Assam bowlers, who have been clinical so far.
The likes of off-spinner Gokul Sharma and medium-pacer Pritam Das, along with captain Abu Nechim Ahmed, have done a fantastic job with the ball. In the earlier matches Tripura and Odisha batsmen simply couldn’t stand up to the challenge of the Assam bowlers.
But then Jharkhand would be desperate to prove their mettle. The Ishank Jaggis and the Saurabh Tiwarys would certainly like to put up an imposing total and prove a point. Given the nature of the track, a 250-plus total would turn out to be a challenging one.
