Guwahati, Feb. 20: The 18-year-old girl from Tezpur who was allegedly gangraped at Paltan Bazar here on Sunday night was also allegedly gangraped by five others in her hometown before she came to Guwahati, police said today.
This came to light following investigations and the arrest of seven persons from Tezpur and Misamari in Sonitpur district today, a senior police officer in Guwahati told The Telegraph.
He said investigations had revealed that the girl was allegedly molested by a youth, whom she knew, inside a dhaba on the outskirts of Tezpur on Friday afternoon on Saraswati puja. The youth allegedly mixed drugs in her soft drink with the alleged intention of rape.
“When she protested, the boy left her on the highway, some distance from the dhaba. After sometime, a friend of the boy who was passing by saw her and promised to take her home. But he took her to another house near Kamrupia Naamghar in Tezpur and locked her inside. Soon, four of his friends joined him and they raped her on Friday and Saturday. All six were arrested today,” the police officer said.
After being allegedly raped for two days, the girl was freed on Sunday morning. “But as she was scared to return home she decided to come to her relative’s place in Guwahati. On her way to the city, she met a youth who promised to take her to her relative’s house in Chenikuthi. But instead of taking her there, he took her to a hotel in Paltan Bazar where he booked separate rooms. At night, he handed her over to the hotel staff and left the hotel. The girl was raped by three persons in the hotel,” the police officer said, adding that they had arrested the youth from Misamari this afternoon.
On Monday, the girl went to Paltan Bazar police station to lodge a complaint. Her family members, who had also lodged a complaint as she was missing since Friday, also came to the police station and filed an FIR, alleging that she was raped by three persons in Hotel Luscent.
The police arrested all three, including the hotel manager, on Monday. Yesterday, they were produced in the Kamrup CJM court, which remanded them in seven-day police custody. All the accused have been booked under Section 376 (2) (g) IPC, which pertains to gang rape and may invite imprisonment for a term not less than 10 years and which may extend up to life and a fine. The police said they have sent samples for forensic tests and were waiting for the report.
