Locket added to Didiís tinsel glitter

Satabdi Roy, Debasree Roy... Locket Chatterjee. Another Tollywood actress has hitched her ride to the Didi bandwagon. Bandh-day afternoon saw Locket visiting Writers’ Buildings, spending time with Team Mamata Banerjee, lunching on dosa and announcing her arrival to the Trinamul Congress fold.

“I met Didi a little after 2pm in her office. The first thing I did was touch her feet. She blessed me and welcomed me as one of the party members. Didi told me, ‘Locket I know you are busy but I have seen that you are very eager to work for the people’. I was always a supporter of Didi. Today I met her officially. After a brief meeting, she took me to a canteen and I had dosa for lunch. Didi, of course, had only a cup of coffee!” the actress later told Metro.

What drew her to Didi — who has displayed quite a Tollywood fixation during her tenure at the top — in the first place? “I am surprised how despite all odds she remains so cool and is handling the state of affairs so efficiently. The masses are her only family. She is my inspiration,” declared Locket, who has been a regular at various Trinamul functions attended by Mamata in recent months. At some of these events, she had expressed her desire to “do something for the people of Bengal”.

Locket’s first assignment for the party? To campaign at Nalhati on Thursday morning. “I will leave for Nalhati at 7am, there’s a roadshow there for the bypoll. Other party members will be with me. I am really looking forward to it.... So far I have entertained people with my acting. Now it’s a more serious role, that of someone who wants to help people,” she said. Campaigning for the bypoll may just be net practice for the big game, the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. “I wouldn’t mind (being a candidate), actually. But that’s not why I have joined the Trinamul. I will do exactly what Didi wants me to do. If she wishes that I be a candidate in the elections, I will. Since I’ve joined politics, I will obviously take it up seriously and I want to take on more responsibilities.

” What about her acting career? For the time being at least Locket will multi-task. “Didi has no problems if I divide my time between party work and films. She has told me she is fond of my acting! I will in fact be leaving for Burdwan shortly for my next film Angurlata. I am great at time management!” laughed Locket.

But isn’t she worried about the timing of her Trinamul debut, with the image of the party and the government having taken a beating? “No. People are being judgemental too early. It’s not even been two years and Didi has already gone through a lot. There are problems but look at how she has handled it all. It’s a new government and it will take time. I am confident about good days ahead for the party. I am not among those who will stand by Didi in good times alone,” asserted the actress. Text: Kushali Nag. Picture: Amit Datta
