Raids unveil cash & cars

Patna, Feb. 20: Sleuths of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) recovered Rs 78.65 lakh in cash besides seven SUVs worth over Rs 2.5 crore during simultaneous raids today on the offices and residential premises of three public servants, including two executive engineers and an enforcement sub-inspector.

The search operations carried out in Patna, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Kaimur and Gopalganj districts also yielded investments of over Rs 50 lakh in shares and insurance firms.

Another team of the EOU searched the personal residence of former Saran deputy inspector-general of police Alok Kumar and property dealer Dinesh Sharma in Patna and seized documents related to purchase of land.

Additional director-general of police (headquarters) Ravinder Kumar said a sum of Rs 61.98 lakh was recovered from a cinema at Sakra in Muzaffarpur district. The theatre belonged to Mohammed Yunus, a sub-inspector (enforcement) posted in Kaimur district. The raid team also stumbled upon documents pertaining to 25 acres of prime land purchased by the sub-inspector at Sakra.

Kumar said raids were conducted at five places, including the Harunnagar residence of Yunus in Patna. The rented accommodation of Yunus at Mohania in Kaimur, Chandanpatti and Sarmastpur in Muzaffarpur were also searched, he said, adding that the enforcement officer owned a four-storied building in Patna.

The EOU team also searched the office and residential premises of Nageshwar Sharma, executive engineer of PHED under the Samastipur division. The team recovered Rs 2.87 lakh in cash besides two luxury BMW cars, one Toyota Land Cruiser, one Innova, one Toyota Fortuner besides two other cars and four motorcycles from the engineer’s Rupunpura house in Patna.

Another EOU team conducted a raid at the office and residential premises of an engineer of the rural engineering organisation, Milithesh Kumar. The raiding team found Rs 14 lakh in cash besides documents of investments worth Rs 20 lakh, 220 grams of gold ornaments and two lockers of nationalised banks. The document related to a house belonging to Kumar at Teachers’ Colony in Buxar town was also seized.

The EOU team also searched the Patliputra Colony house of former Saran DIG Alok Kumar. “Documents related to a land deal between IPS officer Kumar and property dealer Dinesh Sharma have been recovered,” the ADG (headquarters) said.
