Man in net for killing sister-in-law

Balasore, Feb. 19: Mayurbhanj police have arrested a man for killing his minor sister-in -law.

Pradeep Dehuri, 25, of Dolipada village under Sarat police station in Mayurbhanj district confessed to the crime, said police.

The victim was missing since last Thursday. Her family members suspected that Pradeep had committed the murder and questioned him, after which he confessed. They then handed him over to the police. The mutilated body of the victim was recovered from a nearby jungle and sent for autopsy. Officials said Pradeep had committed the murder to take revenge on his in-laws.

“The accused said he hacked the victim to death because of a family dispute,” said inspector in charge of Sarat police station Niranjan Dhir. Though the police registered a murder case, they did not rule out sexual assault.

“Rape cannot be ruled out because of certain evidence. Therefore, we have requested the medical authorities to look into this aspect during post-mortem,” said Dhir.

The accused had married Mama Badehi a year ago. However, their relation turned sour and his wife left him for her parents’ house. “Pradeep was aggrieved with his in-laws. Therfore he killed the minor,” said deputy superintendent of police S.R. Mahapatra.
