Burglary at jewellers’

Burglars decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 4.5 lakh from a jewellery shop at Jemco Market in Telco police station area of Jamshedpur in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The burglars cut a 17 inches by 15 inches hole through a wall at the rear of the shop — Suman and Sonali Jewellers — through which they entered. Shop owner Anil Kumar Rao has lodged an FIR with Telco police station in this connection.

The FIR stated that the burglars decamped with 8kg of silver jewellery and gold ornaments weighing 50 grams, together worth over Rs 4.5 lakh.

A resident of Mishra Bagan, Jemco, Rao said he downed shutters as usual at 9pm on Monday and came back again on Tuesday morning with his nephew Ravi after getting a call from one of his staffers.

“One of my staff opened the shop and found the shelves empty and immediately informed us. I entered the shop and realised they had completely wiped it out,” said Rao.

According to him, there was a vacant plot behind the shop, and the burglars came through that side.

The shop-owner said that there was no watchman in Jemco Market when the incident occurred. Also, there are no residential houses nearby. “That is the reason no one could heard anything when the criminals cut through the wall. Moreover, the burglars did not leave any clues while making their way into the shop,” Rao said.
