Pro Cons collected The Tolly Cup trophy from Sandipan Chakravortty (second from right), vice-president of the club, on Sunday. “Till yesterday we weren’t leading so I think it had something to do with the rain god’s blessings and the way we played today!” said Akash Tantia (far right), whose team won Seiko watches along with the trophy.

CUP HISTORY

“The Tolly Cup started as the Dunlop Cup, possibly in the early ’70s. It was rechristened the Wills Trophy and then the ITC Cup. When ITC withdrew as a sports sponsor, it finally became the Tolly Cup,” says Indrajit Bhalotia, whose team Tolly Toddlers won the Cup in 1988. His team of four had Arjun Atwal, Sanjeev ‘Fatty’ Mehra and Rahul Chawla!

At the prize distribution on Sunday, a piece of history was revealed about the Cup. “The first Tolly Cup was held in 2007. K.K. Dattagupta, a senior past president and golfer, donated the Tolly Cup Rolling Trophy. He wanted this tournament not just to be a mark of excellence for amateurs, but also an entertaining one that celebrated the sport. The Tolly Cup Golf tournament marks the end of the winter golf season in the club,” said Sandipan Chakravortty.
