Manoj Malo bats Genius to final

Guwahati, Feb. 18: An unbeaten century by Manoj Malo helped Genius Club get the better of Ankurjyoti Club by 54 runs in the first semi-final of the Servo 20th Guwahati Challenge Trophy cricket tournament, organised by River Rine Club, at Judges Field here today.

In a match curtailed to 20 overs a side because of wet ground conditions, Genius piled up 198 for three, thanks to Manojís heroics. He took just 64 balls to race to 119, with nine boundaries and seven sixes.

Debajit Baruah chipped in with a valuable 61 off 52 balls.

For Ankurjyoti, Rio Pramanik took a wicket. In reply, Ankurjyoti were restricted to 144 for six in 20 overs. Raj Hussain sparked hopes of a close finish with 52 off 37 deliveries. Gyan Boro raced to 42 off 32 balls

For Genius, Sanjib Dutta bagged three wickets in four overs.

Nuruddin cricket: Kokrajhar drubbed Nalbari by an innings and 31 runs in the Nuruddin Ahmed senior district plate group cricket tournament at the JDSA ground in Jorhat today.

Fencing: Assamís N. Chaoba Devi has been selected to take part in the Asian junior and cadet fencing championship to be held in Bangkok from March 2 to 11. Assam had recently bagged three bronze medals in the 23rd senior national fencing championship.
