Shanjit, Premila win Mega Marathon

Imphal, Feb. 17: Two-time winner Th. Sanjit retained the winner’s title in the men’s open of the 7th Mega Marathon Manipur organised by United Peoples Front (UPF), a rights group of Imphal under the aegis of the Athletics Association of Manipur.

The group organises the event annually under the theme Run for Your nation, Run the Mega Marathon to make Manipur a Healthy Place.

In the women’s open, L. Premila Devi of SAI retained her title. Her record is 1:24:14 hours.

Sanjit from Yairipok of Thoubal district timed 1:04:49 hours.

Md Abid Ahmed of Lilong, also from Thoubal district, bagged the second position (1:05:19) while Pache Khiamniungam from Nagaland finished third (1:05:21).

In the women’s open, Wahida of Lilong secured the second position (1:27:09) while M.K. Mirarashi from Yairipok of Thoubal district finished third (1:30:19). A cash reward of Rs 35,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 was given to the first three winners of the both men and women competitors.

Consolation prices of Rs 2,000 each were given to the fourth to 15th position holders. The Mega Marathon is one of the most popular runs in the Northeast.

More than 1,000 people from Manipur, Nagaland, Bihar and Karnataka participated in the 21.5-km run around Imphal.
