Mumbai, Feb. 17: Sushil Kumar Shinde’s son-in-law’s car, stolen on Thursday, was found after the Union home minister’s youngest daughter spotted it at a traffic signal near her house last night.
Praniti Shinde, an MLA, was heading towards south Mumbai from her Bandra residence around 11.10pm when she saw the missing Mitsubishi Pajero at a signal near Lilavati Hospital. Police officers who were part of her security then approached the vehicle. But the man driving the Pajero reversed and sped off.
A wireless message was sent out to the main control room of Mumbai police, who had formed several teams to search for the car after it was reported missing on Friday morning.
The Pajero, owned by businessman Raj Shroff who is married to Shinde’s second daughter Priti and lives in Worli, was stolen after the driver Vijay Kharat parked it near his house in the same neighbourhood on Thursday night.
Kharat usually drops the car at Shroff’s residence but on that day had taken it home instead. When he did not find it on Friday morning, he first suspected it had been towed away by traffic police. Once he realised it had been stolen, an FIR was registered at NM Joshi Marg police station.
Within half an hour of the police control room being alerted last night, around 11.36pm, the car was found abandoned in another part of Bandra.
Officials at NM Joshi Marg police station said that they are investigating the case but no arrests have been made so far.
