Calcutta: Kingfisher East Bengal crushed Southern Samity 4-0 in their Super Nine clash at Kalyani Stadium, on Saturday.
With this win East Bengal continue to lead the table with 12 points from four matches.
After a barren first half, coach Trevor Morgan made two changes during the breather which had a major bearing in the match. Sanju Pradhan replaced Reisangmi Vashum, and it was from his flag kick that Baljit Sahni nodded in the first goal in the 52nd minute.
Six minutes later Baljit doubled the lead when he fastened onto a brilliant through pass by Edeh Chidi, side stepped an onrushing Avijit Das and prodded the ball into the empty net.
Chidi scored the third goal in the 84th minute, while Harmanjyot Singh Khabra completed the scoring in the 89th with a rasping shot.
“It was good that Chidi scored. He became father on Thursday so obviously he need a goal to celebrate,” coach Trevor James Morgan said.
Chidi was euphoric after scoring and flashed a message “Welcome my baby princess.” Referee Tushar Kanti Ghosh booked him but that did not spoil Chidi’s mood. “It’s okay,” the Nigerian said.
