Pritam destroys Odisha

Calcutta: One can say that the conditions prevalent in the match between Assam and Odisha summed up the performance of both the teams.

If Odisha represented the gloomy and overcast conditions by putting up a pathetic performance, Assam were lively, like the pitch.

Riding on the spirited performance of Pritam Das — he finished with his career best figures (5/30) — Assam registered a comprehensive victory in successive matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. They thrashed Odisha by eight wickets and ensured another bonus point.

In their last match, Odisha had capitulated against Bengal from a winning position. On Saturday, at the Eden, their performance went from bad to worse, as they failed to provide any sort of resistance against the Assam bowlers.

The Assam pace trio — Abu Nechim, Arup Das and Pritam — performed magnificently after Nechim elected to field.

In the end, Odisha managed to put up a paltry 140, thanks to Govind Podder’s 50.

But it proved to be too little as Assam overhauled the target in 34.3 overs. Pallavkumar Das top-scored with 62 (96 balls, 9x4).
