Utpal, Debajit in Genesis win

Guwahati, Feb. 15: Swashbuckling centuries by Utpal Medhi and Debajit Baruah helped Genesis Club inflict a 226-run hammering on Youth Club in a match of the Servo 20th Guwahati Challenge Trophy cricket tournament, organised by River Rine Club, at Judges Field here today.

Genesis opted to bat and piled up a mammoth 299 for one in 20 overs.

Utpal led the batting with a whirlwind 164 not out in just 58 deliveries while Debajit followed suit with an unbeaten 116 in just 57 balls.

Utpal’s knock was laced with 13 sixes and 14 fours, while Debajit struck 20 fours and one six.

Gaurav Choudhury was the lone bowler to take a wicket for Youth Club.

In reply, the Youth innings folded up for a paltry 73 in 17.4 overs.

Barring Nasir Hussain, who made 17, and Rohit Chetri, who chipped in with 14, the remainder failed to make an impression.

For Genesis, Sanjib Dutta scalped three wickets for just five in 2.4 overs.

Bichitra Baruah and Debajit Das also bagged three wickets each.

Tomorrow, Genesis will take on City Cricket Club while Corner Kick lock horns with Brahmaputra Boys Club.
