Sophie sizzles on V-day eve
- Sophie and Kayoze rock Valentine’s eve, partnered by t2, at Calcutta Swimming club

What: Seagram’s Royal Stag presents Valentine’s Eve, partnered by t2

Where: The Calcutta Swimming Club

When: February 13

The Strand Road club hosted its first Valentine’s Eve bash on Wednesday. The star attractions of the night were singer Sophie Choudry and Kayoze Irani of Student Of The Year fame.

Kayoze — better known as Boman Irani’s son — began his first attempt at emceeing with wisecracks before Sophie, dressed in dazzling red, took the stage for some foot-tapping numbers. Ek pardesi mera dil le gaya and Mera babu chhail chhabila — she set the ball rolling with remixed numbers and then changed tempo with Tumhi ho bandhu, Senorita, Mashallah and Angrezi beat. Kayoze joined her to shake a leg when The disco song (from SOTY) came on. DJ Dippy kept the crowd grooving till late.

“This is the first time we are having a programme for Valentine’s Day and I’m quite happy with the turnout. I wanted to do something different and new, hence this bash,” said club president Ashish Doshi.

“Instead of being overtly mushy, the crowd was in a fun mood. Even if you don’t have a partner on Valentine’s Day, you can enjoy it with friends and people close to you,” Sophie told t2, after a rocking performance.

After his first stint at show-hosting, Kayoze Irani spoke with t2 backstage...

Are you single?

Yes, I am single! I like to think myself as lucky! (Laughs)

Do you believe in V-Day and love week?

I am not lovey-dovey but I strongly believe in it these days as I feel it’s important to celebrate them.

Ever experienced heartbreaks?

No, never, but broke a lot of hearts! Whatever relationship I have had, it’s always ended well and till today I am in touch with them.

Your first Valentine’s Day gift to someone?

A pair of earrings to my second girlfriend almost six years back. My first girlfriend did not last that long and I think she had enough of me. (Laughs)

Your favourite love song?

I am a biased person and so without a doubt, I will say Ishq wala love (SOTY)! And I love all Kishore Kumar tracks. I feel Karan Johar brings out all the romantic songs in the country — be it in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Cutest couple in Bollywood?

(Thinks) Aishwarya is my favourite and I really love Abhishek! Both of them are so amazing and with their new baby girl, I wish them the best.

From Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who would you like to take out on a date?

ia, any day! I love her the most and she is my daughter! She calls me up on Father’s Day to wish me (smiles)... I love her to death and she is my Valentine!

Your first impressions of Calcutta?

I always wanted to visit Calcutta. From the taxis, trams and buses... everything has that old-world charm and it blew my mind! I enjoyed performing here. I was nervous initially as this was my first performance but I gradually had a lot of fun!
