Coach Sinha confident

Calcutta: Jharkhand coach Tarak Sinha is hoping their good showing in the Ranji Trophy would help them perform creditably in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Jharkhand launch their campaign against Tripura on Saturday.

Jharkhand made the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy after finishing second in Group C.

“We did well in the Ranji Trophy. That performance has given us the confidence. There’s no doubting the players’ abilities… Saurabh Tiwary, Ishank Jaggi, Shahbaz Nadeem are all quality players… We just need to concentrate on the basics,” said Sinha. “The players are in a positive frame of mind. There are not many changes from the Ranji side and that will help the players. Two years ago we were champions and we hope to do well this time too,” he added.

Sinha, however, doesn’t wish to pick any team as favourites.

“In one-day cricket, no one team can be picked as favourite. Assam are a tough opponent… Bengal are a strong side… Their players’ abilities are never in doubt… Odisha also cannot be taken lightly.

“All the teams are equally good. There are no favourites in the one-day format. Any team can win on a given day and we’ve to be on out toes,” said the Jharkhand coach.
