CRPF jawan kills self

Jamshedpur, Feb. 14: A CRPF jawan shot himself dead with his assault rifle at the force’s Matkamdih camp in Chowka police station area of Chandil, about 40km from the steel city, late last night.

The deceased, who belonged to CRPF's 196th battalion, was identified as Dilip Kumar (25), a resident of Kanauj in Uttar Pradesh.

Circle inspector (Chandil) O.P. Singh said prima facie it appeared a case of suicide and a marital dispute could be the reason behind the tragedy.

“The jawan, who was a constable, shot himself with his own AK 47 following a conversation with his wife over phone. In fact, he was talking to his wife Sangeeta when he pressed the trigger,” said Singh.

The incident took place around 10.30pm, and the jawan died on the spot. “There were as many as 41 missed calls on Kumar’s cellphone between 11.58am and 10.30pm when the incident took place. The deceased received the 42nd call, but while talking he shot himself,” said the police officer.
