Pradipta Mandal was a jovial 22-year old when he died in a road accident on July 5 last year. Brought up in Vizag, the young computer scientist loved all kinds of sports. In memory of their only son, Pradipta’s parents Sumanta and Papia Mandal launched Pradipta Memorial Volleyball Tournament that was held at Howrah Saraswati Club on January 12 and 13.
Eight clubs registered with the Howrah District Volleyball Association participated in the tournament. The knockout rounds were held on January 12 where four clubs, namely, Baksara Naba Chakra, Baksara Anushilan Chakra, Jagachha Byayam Samity and Salkia Association qualified for the semi-finals. The final was held between Baksara Naba Chakra and Baksara Anushilan Chakra where the latter won the trophy. Baksara Naba Chakra’s Sourav Majhi was man of the match.
