Prod on institutional delivery

Dhanbad, Feb. 13: State health secretary K. Vidyasagar today asked officials to target improving institutional delivery rate at a review meeting on National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) schemes in districts of North Chotanagpur.

Addressing mediapersons after the meeting at Bokaro Club, Vidyasagar said he had asked the civil surgeons to increase the rate of institutional delivery in their respective districts.

Various district-level health officers including civil surgeons, additional chief medical officer and medical officer in charge of primary and community health centres of Dhanbad, Bokaro, Giridih, Ramgarh, Chatra, Koderma and Hazaribagh participated in the meeting.

Sources said the state-level officers of NRHM were critical of the performances of especially Chatra and Dhanbad with regard to implementation of the schemes.

Although the officials did not cite any data, the focus was on raising institutional delivery rate in every district.

Meanwhile, when asked about lack of doctors in various districts, including Bokaro, Vidyasagar said 55 contractual doctors who had been appointed recently would be soon posted.

On the achievements of his department, Vidyasagar said blood storage facility had been created in various districts and gynaecologists would be appointed across the state.
