Headless body on hillock

The decapitated and naked body of a young woman was found on top of a deserted hillock, close to the picnic spot in Dimna, on Wednesday. The severed head, a silk sari and a bottle of drinking water were lying beside her.

A shepherd first spotted the body around 9am. He called the local watchman who in turn informed MGM police. Later, Bodam police, who exercise jurisdiction over Dimna Falls, were intimated.

East Singhbhum SP (rural) Rajiv Kumar Singh said the woman, possibly in her thirties, was yet to be identified.

“The packaged drinking water bottle suggests she was an outsider, may be a tourist. She was married. She was killed on the hillock, which normally remains deserted, though Dimna is a picnic spot,” he said, adding that they were yet to ascertain whether she was raped.

“The body was recovered from the spot in the afternoon and sent to MGM Medical College for post-mortem. The autopsy will shed light on sexual assault, if any.”

Police suspect that the murder took place sometime between 6pm on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday, when the Dimna area is not bustling with picnickers. “The body had not started decomposing, which means the murder took place within a day,” Singh said.
