Age was just a number as 1,500 young scientists showcased their solutions to everyday problems like power and water crisis and global warming at a gathering in Ranchi on Tuesday.
The state could be urging citizens to save electricity and water, adopt rainwater-harvesting system and opt for eco-agriculture, but it took 200 exhibits put up by children to drive the point home during the annual science exhibition at DAV Public School, Gandhinagar on Tuesday.
The exhibits focussed on water harvesting, transportation, solar energy, disaster management, wind power, space exploration and organic farming, put up by students of classes VI to XI.
To tackle water crisis, the young minds designed model sensor taps. “It is not only cost-effective, but also saves energy. One can avoid continuous flow of water from the taps,” explained Amrit Prasad, an eleventh grader.
Among the juniors, sixth grader Ritu Nandini bagged the first prize for her exhibit based on eco-friendly agricultural practices. “Our farmers can adopt and improve agricultural production by adopting inter-cropping,” she explained.
Chief guest on the occasion R.R. Mishra, CCL’s director (personnel), lauded the efforts of the students.
