Bid boost to power

Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited has received a positive response from bidders after it floated tenders to outsource the job of repairing distribution transformers.

Nine firms have qualified to take part in the technical bidding in response to the power company’s proposal to get 500 distribution transformers repaired before summer starts i.e. April. Power consumers draw electricity from distribution transformers.

“Nine firms, having expertise in repairing transformers, have qualified in the technical bidding. The bidding was opened on February 11. The company would now analyse their offers. After analysing the offers, the financial bid would be opened in a week or 10 days,” a senior officer with the power holding company said.

He added that the company has decided to get the distribution transformers repaired through outsourcing to tide over summer crisis. The company hopes to get the distribution transformers repaired latest by first week of April.

In December 2012, the power company invited tenders to outsource the job of repairing the burnt/defective transformers keeping in mind the summers, sources said.

“We are trying to make an inventory of the repaired distribution transformers to deal with the situation of overloading when the transformers frequently get tripped during the summer,” an official said.

The power company has also invited tenders from private parties to carry out the repairing work of distribution transformers on a regular basis for three years. “The process for selection of prospective bidder for three years is currently underway,” the official said.

Sources said the government has taken a decision to set up additional 13 transformer repair workshops, in addition to the existing seven in the state.

The company’s initiative shows the government’s seriousness to replace the burnt transformers within 24 hours in urban and 72 hours in rural areas. Chief minister Nitish Kumar has time and again reiterated his commitment to replace burnt transformers within 24 hours and 72 hours in urban and rural areas respectively.
