Bud Club sail past GTC

- Genesis to meet Chandmari and River Rine take on Royal XI today

Guwahati, Feb. 11: Bud Cricket Club inflicted an eight-wicket defeat on Gauhati Town Club in today’s group league match of the Servo 20th Guwahati Challenge Trophy cricket tournament, organised by River Rine Club at Judges Field here today.

Put to bat first, GTC, for whom Judges Field is the home ground, were restricted to 140 for five in the 20 overs and Bud lost two wickets scoring 142 in 16.5 overs.

Ranji player Mrigen Talukdar entertained the crowd with a hurricane knock of 51 not out, facing only 32 balls off which he slammed two fours and five sixes.

Deep Bora (39, 4x3, 6x1) and Bastav Hazarika (20) were the other main scorers for GTC.

Salim Ahmed, Mukut Kalita and Rishav Das of Bud picked up a wicket each.

In their chase, opener Rishav Das remained unbeaten on a run-a-ball 52 (4x5, 6x1) along with Saurav Bhagawati of 24 (4x2, 6x2) at the other end.

Kunal Saikia (33, 4x5, 6x1) and Mukut Kalita (20, 4x4) were the other notable scorers for Bud. Mrigen Talukdar of GTC claimed a wicket for 34 runs. Earlier in the day, Navajyoti Club were awarded a walkover as opponents Navarang Club pulled out from the scheduled match after injuries to some of their key players. Genesis Club will meet Chandmari Sports Club and River Rine Club clash with Royal XI in tomorrow’s matches.
