A sub-inspector of Amherst Street police station has been arrested following a complaint lodged by a woman alleging that he had sent her indecent text messages.
A case under the IPC Section 509, dealing with word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, has been slapped on the sub-inspector. He was produced in Bankshall court and granted bail, said a senior officer of the north division.
Prior to his arrest, the officer had been closed, or temporarily taken off active duty.
Sources at Lalbazar said the complainant had been visiting the police station for a month in connection with a property dispute and interacting with the accused. On February 8, she called on deputy commissioner (north) Gaurav Sharma and complained that the officer had sent her indecent text messages, said an officer.
