Sporting Clube go past Arrows

Calcutta: Sporting Clube de Goa’s impressive run continues as they registered their third straight victory, beating Pailan Arrows 2-0, here, at the Salt Lake Stadium, on Sunday.

Sporting Clube rode second-half strikes from Ogba Kalu and Victorino Fernandes to seal the issue. The performance curve of the Goa outfit in this I-League has certainly been upward ever since the arrival of Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon, under whose guidance, the team committed very few errors so far.

Sporting Clube appeared a little rugged sometimes, on Sunday, allowing their rivals with a greater ball possession till Bruzon brought in Dawson Fernandes for Juan Pena. The move paid off almost immediately as Dawson, sprinting down the right flank, squared one for an unmarked Kalu who tapped it home comfortably.

The lead in the 63rd minute enabled Sporting Clube to get into their groove and gain a control over the proceedings. Precisely, Dawson’s introduction provided the visitors with the thrust they desperately needed at the attacking-third.

Four minutes before regulation time, Victorino, making amends for his initial squander, unleashed a long ranger that beat Arrows’ goalkeeper SP Anganba all ends up to wrap up the game for Clube.

“I always knew that this team has the potential. We are gradually easing the pressure off and moving on to a safer zone,” coach Bruzon said.

The win helps Sporting Clube move up to eighth in the league table with 23 points, while Arrows, once again paying for their poor execution, remain at No. 10 with 19 points.
