Guwahati, Feb 10: Navajyoti Club claimed the Spinner 10000 XIth Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge Trophy cricket tournament title, clinching a two-run victory against Navarang Club in the final at Nehru Stadium here today.
Put to bat first, Navajyoti Club posted 186 for nine in the stipulated overs and their bowlers defended the modest total, bowling out the opponents for 184 in 40 overs.
Abhinav Konwar topscored for Navajyoti with an unbeaten 58 (4x5) and Ranji veteran Parag Kumar Das chipped in with a strokeful 39 (4x8). Amrinder Singh Oberoi (27, 4x2, 6x2) was another main scorer for the side.
Rakesh Goyal was most successful Navarang bowler with the scalp of three for 47 while Bikram Chhetry and Neeraj Tiwari took two each for 22 and 24 respectively.
For Navarang, Romario Sharma scored 48 (4x7, 61) while Sadek Imran Choudhury contributed a steady 30 (4x1) and Utpal Medhi hammered two towering sixes to chip in with 27 runs from 29 balls.
Rugby camp: A week-long rugby coaching camp of the Rugby Association of Assam got under way at the Navajagaran Sangha ground at Patarkuchi in Beltola here today. The camp is part of the association’s state-wide talent hunt.
Kung-fu: Kisan Singh and Pankaj Kr Das were elected president and secretary respectively while outgoing secretary Gome Thapa was elected organising secretary and chief publicity secretary of the Assam Kung-Fu Federation in its 20th annual general held here yesterday.
Sunday Chess: Prachurjya Gayan emerged the unbeaten champion in the PC Borooah Sunday Chess Tournament at PC Borooah Chess Academy here today. He scored five points from six rounds. Nitish Das also scored five points from same number of rounds but was declared second on the basis of tiebreak scores.
Chiraranjan Bhuyan scored 4.5 points to be in the third position. Prasurjya Das also scored 4.5 points and finished fourth on the basis of tiebreak score.
