Kokrajhar, Feb. 10: Dhaka Club of Delhi lifted the trophy in the 11th edition of Bodoland Martyr’s Gold Cup Volleyball Championship held at Kokrajhar District Sports Association ground here.
In the final last evening, the Delhi team defeated Diesel Locomotive Workshop (DLW), Varanasi in a five-game encounter 13-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-27, 15-12.
The final was a nail-biting affair as both teams fought hard and demonstrated a beautiful game of volleyball much to the delight of the packed stadium.
Earlier in the respective semi-finals, Dhaka Club defeated Kurukshetra SAI 23-25, 28-30, 25-20, 25-23, 25-13.
The DLW team beat Central Railway 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, and 5-16.
Hemendra Nath Brahma, the president of the Assam Football Association (AFA), handed over the champion’s trophy to the winning team, along with a cash award of Rs 50,000.
The amount was donated by BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary in memory of his mother late Budbari Mohilary.
BTC executive member Lwmshrao Daimary gave away the runners-up trophy, along with Rs 25,000.
The cash amount is donated by Pradeep Basumatary in memory of his mother late Charuwala Basumatary.
BTC executive member Mono Kumar Brahma handed over the best player trophy and Rs 5,000 to Baljit Singh of Dhaka Club.
The tournament was organised by the Kokrajhar District Sports Association and Ex-BLT Welfare Society.
