MLA returns security cover

Dhanbad, Feb. 10: Leader of Congress Legislature Party in Jharkhand and Bermo MLA Rajendra Prasad Singh has returned the services of all policemen provided for his security to protest against the state government decision to curtail security of MLAs and former ministers.

In a letter to governor Syed Ahmed, copies of which have been sent to the director general of police, home secretary, chief secretary, advisors to the governor, Bokaro deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Singh said he decided to return security in interest of the personnel deputed at his house.

As Bermo is a Naxalite affected area where several incidents of violence have taken place earlier including a bank dacoity in which policemen were killed, it will be very difficult for five police personnel to fight rebels during any exigency and provide security to me and my family, Singh said.

Notably, the security cover of Singh was whittled from eight constables and two officers to four constables and one officer recently on the orders of the governor.

I cant cannot put the lives of five policemen deputed at my house in Bermo at risk and thus I have offered to return the security provided to me, said Singh.

His son Anup has also returned the lone bodyguard provided to him by the state as he is president of state Youth Congress.
