New Delhi: Though several issues remained unresolved, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and rebel players called a truce on Saturday, till the Davis Cup tie against Indonesia, in Bangalore, in April.
Eleven top players, including Somdev Dev Varman, Mahesh Bhupathi, Rohan Bopanna and Vishnu Vardhan, have informed AITA about their availability to play the Asia Oceania relegation tie only if the national federation complies with all the conditions it has agreed to in writing.
“Given that a number of the issues that we have raised still remain unresolved, our confirmation of availability is limited to the said Indonesia tie,” the players warned AITA through a letter.
“For the future, we look forward to a far reasonable and comprehensive long-term understanding being formally documented after a consultative and collaborative process involving us as players,” they added.
The players, who had been making several demands including the removal of SP Mishra as the non-playing captain, has also made it clear that they would not accept the three-member committee formed by the AITA to look into the players’ demands.
“We would also like to mention that we are not available to talk with the new committee the AITA has formed as we feel that it comprises of people who are biased towards the AITA,” the letter said.
The AITA, on the other hand, stuck to its guns and said the committee would not be dissolved.
