Jamshedpur, Feb. 9: Planning Commission of India adviser Nidhi Khare has called for registration of physical assets or end results of projects carried out under the Centre’s Integrated Action Plan (IAP) in Jharkhand.
Khare told The Telegraph the registration of assets was necessary to prevent inadvertent duplication and wastage of money and resources by any department other than the one involved in a project.
The Jharkhand cadre IAS, on deputation at the Centre and has served as deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum (2002-03), reviewed IAP projects carried out in the district at Circuit House today.
“I have already discussed the issue with the state officials at a meeting in Ranchi yesterday. Jharkhand is doing well in terms of implementation of IAP schemes but the officials have to sort out the issue of registration of physical assets to avoid duplication as development projects by other departments,” she said.
She said a road built in a left-wing extremism affected area under IAP should not be taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana or the state road construction wing. So far, she added, the state has failed to register physical assets at the district level.
The plan panel and the home ministry have been jointly responsible for IAP since its launch in 2010-11 as a development initiative in 35 districts.
In 2012-13, East Singhbhum received funds to the tune of Rs 75 crore for IAP schemes. So far, it has utilised Rs 58.62 crore in construction of roads, bridge, culverts, anganwadi centres, education, irrigation, drinking water supply and skill upgrade plans.
Khare, who held a review meeting, visited a 10km road built at a cost of Rs 7.8 crore from Dublabera-Khairbani touching Naxalite-hit Lango village and a Rs 1.65-crore bridge in Kowali (Potka) before leaving for Ranchi.
