Assault charge rocks Balasore

Balasore, Feb. 8: A female member of the district consumer redressal forum here has brought allegations of sexual harassment against her boss and lodged an FIR.

The complainant, in her FIR lodged last night, stated that forum president Ajay Samal had been sexually harassing her for the past two years and that it was going unabated despite her objections.

“He often used to ask me to accompany him in his car for meetings to distance places. He made remarks with sexual innuendoes,” she said, adding that she decided to lodge a complaint following an incident on Wednesday.

“He sent all staff members on various duties and finding me all alone, he got physical with me. I decided enough was enough,” she said.

“The president of the forum was not available in his office. When we called him up, he said he would meet us on Monday,” said inspector in charge of Sahadevkhunta police station Manoj Rout.

Samal said the complainant was trying to get even with him as he did not favour her in a particular office matter. “All allegations against me are false and fabricated with the intention to malign me. I neither approached her ever to accompany me nor made any obscene remarks,” Samal said.

Describing Wednesday’s episode as a concocted story, he said: . “During the disposal of a case in a full court room, she asked me take a certain stand which I didn’t agree to. Rather, I suggested her to give her independent opinion. This might have angered her.”

The incident has generated sharp reactions, with social activist Aparna Mohapatra demanding strong action against the culprit.
