Ranchi, Feb. 8: Supreme Court Chief Justice Altamas Kabir will lay the foundation stone of the new high court premises in HEC area of Ranchi tomorrow. He will be accompanied by Union minister of law and justice Ashwani Kumar.
Justice Kabir, along with SC judges M.Y. Eqbal, S.J. Mukhopadhyay, Gyan Sudha Misra and G.S. Singhvi, arrived in the capital this evening. Calcutta High Court judge Tapen Sen and Bar Council of India chairman and senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra will also attend the function.
The high court will be built on 167 acres acquired by the state from HEC. The land was allotted by the PSU after a PIL was filed by Jharkhand High Court Advocatesí Association. The latter had filed the petition stating that the existing premises was congested and there was no proper place for advocates and litigants to discuss their problems.
The judges will also attend a national seminar hosted by the Jharkhand State Bar Council on issues and challenges in maintaining the rule of law at SAIL auditorium. The seminar will be addressed by SC judges and a technical session chaired by former SC judge B.P. Singh and S.B. Sinha.
Justice Kabir will also participate and inaugurate a two-day seminar on economic reforms and FDI at National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL).
