Abir on his darling daughter
- Abir tells t2 about the new girl in his life!

Even as Raima Sen thinks up pranks to play on him, on the sets of Hridmajhare, his li’ girl is all Bomkesh Bakshi can think of at the moment. Abir tells t2 about being daddy cool...

How has your little girl changed your life?

Oh, I wanted to talk about her only when she’s 18! Life has definitely changed after my little girl was born (January 24)... there are more responsibilities now. Whenever the phone rings, I am tense. She is at her uncle’s with Nandini (wife). So whenever Nandini calls, I get a little tense... if everything is all right, touchwood. Earlier, too, I would always want an early pack-up and go home to my family. Now I want the earliest of pack-ups and run to be with my daughter! Thankfully, her mamabari is also in Kalikapur, next to my house, so I spend the nights with them.

So are you a hands-on dad? Have you changed nappies yet?

It’s too early. I will do all that when she comes to my place. She is so tiny! Let her grow up a little.... She is so tiny that I don’t take her in my lap too often. She still doesn’t react. But I am very good with kids.... I was there in the OT when she was born and I can’t tell you how I felt! I actually went numb. It was very filmi too! Everything went out of focus and blurry....

Nandini has named her Mayurakshi. You had told t2 you were thinking of something out of the box...

Actually, I still haven’t thought of a name because she is so, so small. She won’t respond nah.... All she does through the day is sleep, eat, potty and sleep again! But I am quite amazed that Nandini is communicating with her as if she is a grown-up girl already. She tells her ekhon kintu kadbe na, bairer lok achhe! (Laughs) They have very serious conversations!

Nowadays, women find stars who are dads more hot than ever, unlike earlier when actors would hide their kids...

Yes, the concept of looking at celebrities has changed. It depends on the kind of image you have, how the audience perceive you. I don’t think my being a father will change the way my audience look at me. My fans are happy. Wishes have been pouring in from all section of my fans. I guess my female fans are happy too!

What kind of a dad will you be when Mayurakshi grows up — strict or lenient?

Depends. I have had a very protected childhood. I grew up very well, I should give her that. My parents never pampered me a lot when I was a child because they were involved in theatre and I grew up with my Dadu and Thamma. Dadu was my world but he would scold me too for not doing homework! So I guess I’m neither going to pamper her much nor be very strict. There should be a balance.
