Nick shines for Rhinos

New Delhi/Mumbai: Mumbai Magicians ended their Hockey India League campaign on a disappointing note, going down 0-1 to Ranchi Rhinos at the Mumbai Association Stadium on Thursday.

Rhinos earned five points through a superb field goal from Nick Wilson in the final quarter and finished second.

Magicians suffered their 11th defeat in 12 games to finish at the bottom of the table.

Rhinos earned the first penalty corner of the game, but were unable to convert it.

Magicians made a number of attacks, entering at regular intervals. The third quarter was also played at same pace, and soon Magicians earned their third penalty corner.

Meanwhile, Delhi Waveriders’ unbeaten run came to an end when they lost 1-4 to Wizards at the Dhyan Chand Stadium, New Delhi.

The victory propelled Wizards to the third place and enabled them to avoid yet another clash with the mighty Delhi side in the semi-finals. While Waveriders will now play Punjab Warriors in the semis, Uttar Pradesh will clash with Ranchi Rhinos.

With 49 points already in their kitty, Delhi had a chance to cross the half-century mark in the points table. However, having already reached the semi-final, they certainly took things easy. Some of the regulars like Simon Child and Gurwinder Chandi did not play.
