City fail in semis bid

BUD Cricket

Guwahati, Feb. 7: A 94-run win against Gauhati Town Club could not help City Cricket Club reach the semi-finals of Spinner 10000 Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge Trophy cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here.

While Navajyoti Club, Navarang Club and hosts Bud Cricket Club emerged as three group leaders, River Rine Club qualified as the fourth team for the knockouts with the best net run-rate among the group runners-up. Navajyoti will play River Rine in the first semi-final tomorrow.

City elected to bat first today and piled up 290 for five in 40 overs, while GTC were all out for 196 in 37.5 overs.

Harmit Singh Sandhu, who topscored for City with an unbeaten 85 (4x7, 6x2), was adjudged Man of the Match.
