Abu to lead Assam squad

Vijay hazare trophy

Guwahati, Feb. 7: Paceman Abu Nechim Ahmed will lead Assam in the Vijay Hazare Trophy East Zone limited-over cricket tournament in Calcutta from February 14.

The Assam Cricket Association has relieved key batsman Dheeraj Jadhav of the captainís responsibility, apparently keeping in view his decline in form during the recent Ranji Trophy campaign. The Pune professional had admitted to be under pressure shouldering the dual responsibility.

In the bowling department, Ranji Trophy performers Arlen Konwar and Dhiraj Goswami were not invited to the trials. Silchar lad Samik Das will be the only new face in the squad.

The Assam team will leave for Calcutta on February 12.

The squad: Abu Nechim Ahmed (capt), Rajdeep Das (wk), Dheeraj Jadhav, Tarjinder Singh, Syed Mohammad, Pallav Das, Pritam Debnath, Amit Sinha, Arup Das, Sibsankar Roy, Pritam Das, Gokul Sharma, Deepak Gohain, Samik Das, Sekhar Jyoti Barman. Manager: Manindra Nath Saikia. Coaches: Subrajit Saikia and Subhadeep Ghosh. Physio: Parmeet Singh. Trainer: Rakesh Gohil. Reserves: Rishav Das, Kunal Saikia, Krishna Das, Dayal Krishna Dutta and Chanakya Sarma.
