Guwahati, Feb. 7: Guwahati regained the JK Barooah Trophy inter-district (U-19) cricket tournament title, defeating Jorhat by an innings and 113 runs on the final day of the three-day match at Barsapara Stadium here today.
Following on, the visitors resumed their second innings on the overnight 18 for two score, only to be skittled out for 75 runs in 30.4 overs.
Former champions Guwahati had elected to bat first and rode a brilliant century by Sunzow Brahma to post a first innings total of 287 in 131 overs yesterday. Jorhat were bundled out for 99 in 48 overs yesterday.
In the second innings, middle order bat Ashwini Jeet Pal topscored for the visitors with a 36-run knock (3x4, 2x6).
Opener Md Arif, who was the first wicket to fall today on 12 (4x1), was the only other Jorhat batsman to reach double figures.
Paceman Amit Boro was the Guwahati demolition man, scalping five for 22 while offie Anchal Saikia scalped three for 37.
Brahma was named Man of the Match and Man of the tournament while teammate Abir Chakraborty, who picked up 32 wickets in the tournament, was named Best Bowler.
Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah appealed to the players to continue with their regular routine in the off-season. He also suggested the youngsters to venture out to play club cricket outside the state during the long rainy season here, to improve their temperament.
