DANCE

The sound of ghungroos, tabla, violin and more filled the Raj Bhavan lawns on Tuesday evening as Governor M.K. Narayanan and wife Padmini played host to ‘Sparsh: A Parampara of Caring Through Dance’, an initiative by Anup Motilal and Oindrilla Dutt, in association with EZCC. Three leading dancers from the city — Alokananda Roy, Vikram Iyengar and Priti Patel — were felicitated for their efforts to reach out to the less fortunate through dance.

okananda, with inmates of correctional homes in Bengal, performed an excerpt from her production Valmiki Pratibha. Iyengar and members of Ranan presented an excerpt from Shunya Se, a kathak performance to the music of Tchaikovsky. The students of Bijoynagar Adarsha Vidya Mandir, a village school in the Sunderbans that was destroyed by Aila (in 2009), also performed with Iyengar.

Priti and her troupe presented an excerpt from their production Agni and a special performance titled Vande Mataram, with a group of challenged children.
