Shillong, Feb. 6: Altogether 357 candidates have filed their nominations for Meghalaya Assembly polls on February 23.
Fifty-two candidates submitted their papers on the last day of the nomination process today. The scrutiny of papers will take place tomorrow while the last day to withdraw nominations is February 9.
Voting will be held in 2,485 polling stations, out of which 1,263 have been declared “normal”. Another 412 polling stations have been classified hyper-sensitive because of militancy, while 462 have been classed as hypersensitive because of clashes. Another 348 polling stations have been determined as sensitive because of clashes and other reasons.
As on January 5, 2013, the total number of electorate has been pegged at 14,90,015. Out of these 7,53,307 are female voters and 7,36,708 are male voters.
Mawlai constituency has the highest number of voters with 33,869 while the constituency with the lowest number of voters is Dalu with 15,979.
Around 9,940 will be deployed as election officials while 3,700 electronic voting machines will be utilised during voting day.
Voting will take place on February 23 while counting will be held on February 28.
