Guwahati in command

Guwahati, Feb. 6: Skipper Sunzow Brahma scored his second century at the Barsapara Stadium here to help home side Guwahati be in sight of a victory against Jorhat in the three-day JK Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-19) cricket tournament final today.

Guwahati resumed the second day at overnight 217 for seven to pile up 287 losing all wickets in 131 overs in the first innings before lunch. Jorhat were bundled out for 99 in 48 overs in the first innings and, put to follow on, the visitors lost two wickets for 18 runs in 18 overs at close today.

Brahma, who had cracked a century at the same ground in Assamís first Cooch Behar Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir last year, resumed at overnight 70 to score 117. His 235-ball innings comprised 14 hits to the ropes.

Beside, tailender Amit Boro chipped in with a patient 19 (4x3) facing 34 balls to give an able company to Brahma.

The other main scorers in Guwahatiís first innings include Prahlad Gayan (68, 4x8, 6x1), Manash Das (36, 4x2) and Ranjit Changmai (25, 4x2).

Apart from Sanjib Prasad Thakurís three for 32, leggie Prabal Borkotoky claimed a wicket today.

In Jorhatís first innings, Ayman Siddiqui topscored with a patient 47 (4x3) off 103 balls and Ashwini Jeet Pal contributed 21 (4x3).

Guwahati offie Anchal Saikia and Abir Chakraborty ripped apart the visitorsí innings sharing three wickets each conceding 39 and 22 runs respectively.

Amit Oro and Romario Sharma shared two each for 24 and 14 respectively.

Set to chase a target of 189 runs in the second innings to make the hosts bat again, Mohd Arif and nightwatchman Anshuman Sarma of Jorhat were at the crease on 11 and one respectively when stumps were drawn for the day.

Amit Boro and Abir Chakraborty picked up a wicket each.
