Policemen triumph

Imphal, Feb. 4: Manipur Police Sports Club annexed the champion’s title of the 14th Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial Invitation Hockey Tournament, defeating Moral Educational Intellectual Renaissance and Athletics Association by 5-1 goals in the final today.

P. Adeva scored two goals for Manipur Police in the 30th and 60th minutes while S. Tarun (23rd minute), O. Boniam (24th minute) and Th. Romesh (65th minute) scored a goal each. For Moral Educational, N. Jenjen scored the lone goal in the 28th minute.

The Best Goalkeeper award went to L. Nelson of Moral Educational, Best Defender award to N. Gunamani of Manipur Police, Best Mid-fielder award to Th. Romesh of Manipur Police, Best Attacker to P. Adeva of Manipur Police and Best Player award to Th. Kirankumar of Moral Educational.

The first goal-scorer in the final award went to S. Tiken of Manipur Police.

Hockey Union won the Best Disciplined Team title.

The champion team was given Rs 40,000, along with a running trophy, the runners-up Rs 20,000 and the second runner-up Rs 10,000.

Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong were in third place.

Bokakhat win: Hosts Bokakhat posted a five-wicket win against Charaideo in yesterday’s match of the Amarjit Sarmah Trophy inter-district (under-15) cricket tournament zonal league match at Bokakhat. Charaideo elected to bat and were all out for 73 in 32.1 overs. Bokakhat achieved the target losing five wickets in 21.1 overs.

Soccer: Gossaigaon Football Coaching Centre will meet Gargaon Football Coaching Centre in the final of the state-level under-14 inter-football coaching centre football tournament, organised by Titabor District Sports Association, at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon tomorrow.
